II. Introductory Materials

Overview of Our Work Together
This is our opportunity to clarify the study circle process as described in the introductory materials.
• What can we expect to gain from a group learning experience?
• What commitments will we make to each other and the group?

Opportunity to clarify
• Reviewing of the history of the project
• Growing the work we do: Getting the word out, organizing and/or leading a new Study Circle
• Planning for a Community Forum on Health Care Reform: Organizing, publicizing, volunteering, attending, etc.

III. Survey

Take a few minutes to complete the Study Circle Survey. This survey is for your information only and will not be collected. Save it. It will be repeated at our final session to help you assess changes in your attitudes, opinions and knowledge.

IV. Activities for Study Circle #1

Going around the circle each member addresses these questions.

• Round One:
Group member introductions: Briefly say why you are here? Why is this subject personal to you? What is your greatest concern about our health care system and why?
• Round Two:
Share one health care story with the group. To what extent does it lead you to consider its moral implications?

Open Discussion on the Readings
• Were you surprised by anything you read? If so, what?
• To what extent is our health care system designed to reflect our values?
• Do you agree that health care reform is a moral imperative? Why or why not?
